Music Mondays – “Control” by Royal Tailor

verse 1:

This world is rah rah
In a bad romance going ga ga
You know we’re gettin’ played by the love game
And hypnotized by all the fame
But I believe we can’t back down from the fight
It’s not okay with me to just be silent
Won’t be silent, silent

No, we won’t let them take control
We won’t go with the flow
We’ve got to stand together
It’s so plastic and I can’t be a fake
It’s so static, every word that they say
We won’t let them take control
Won’t let them take control

verse 2:

Life is short, baby, tick tock
Ain’t got no time for your blah blah (nah nah nah)
‘Cause girl we don’t need your drug
No, no, we don’t what you’re calling love
‘Cause I believe that you’re either yes or no
You’re hot or cold
No teenage dream could ever be worth your soul
Never worth your soul

It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these!  I’ve had this album for a while, and this song didn’t catch me right away.  I thought it was loud and a little copy cat.  But then one day I actually listened to the words.  These lyrics are really strong!  From then on I’ve grown to like this song very much.  Actually, with the things that have been going on this past year, this song has become very important to me; Almost like a mantra.  The first verse is more of an indictment though.  Pop culture has been creeping it’s way into the church for a long time, and now it’s spreading like wildfire.  Christians are weak, rendering the church almost ineffective.  No wonder the world is the way it is today!  Do people even know that you’re a Christian?  Or do you bend in with everyone else?  Church, we need to stop being chameleons and stand out and do what we are called to do!

Ephesians 1:22 & 23 (NKJV) says,

“And He put all things under His feet, and gave to Him to be head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.”

The New Living Translation says it slightly better:

“God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made Him head over all things for the benefit of the church.  And the church is His body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with Himself.”

The NLT happens to be my overall favorite translation, but The Message says this verse the best:

“He is in charge of it all, has the final word on everything. At the center of all this, Christ rules the church. The church, you see, is not peripheral to the world; the world is peripheral to the church. The church is Christ’s body, in which he speaks and acts, by which he fills everything with his presence.”

I know a lot of times we say that Satan rules the world, but that is not true.  The world is heavily influenced by him, but he is in no way in control.  God runs this!  The church isn’t some organization that the world keeps an eye on and tries to keep in its place.  The church keeps an eye out on the world!  We are Christ’s hands and feet in the world, and we should be keeping the world in check.  If we would quit worrying about our own problems that God said He’s already taken care of, then maybe it would be easier for us to care about the lost.  I am probably one of the most guilty!  Let’s stand together and not let them gain anymore ground.  We won’t let them take control!
